GMO Free Arizona is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2013. The organization was founded by Rachel Linden and Ariane Glazer. They were inspired to begin GMO Free Arizona by a 2011 event in Mesa where a sold-out crowd of more than 200 people gathered to hear a presentation from Jeffrey Smith, Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology. Rachel and Ariane subsequently worked behind CA Proposition 37 campaign to label GMOs. GMO Free Arizona was founded to formalize efforts to educate Arizona about genetically engineered (GE) foods and their associated risks.
