A groundbreaking Canadian study demonstrates that DNA from genetically modified crops crosses the placental barrier. This contrasts with claims from industry that the GE DNA is destroyed in the human gut. The study which found traces of Bt toxin in the blood of 93 per cent of the pregnant mothers tested. It was also found in 80 per cent of the umbilical cords tested. In the non-pregnant group, traces were found in the blood of 69 per cent of the test subjects. It is thought the toxin is getting into the human body as a result of eating meat, milk and eggs from farm livestock fed GM corn.
